American Ayurveda Shirodhara Pots with Control Valve

Shirodhara is a deep cleansing process that involves dripping Herbal Oil to drip over the forehead or different parts of the body. It is one of the karma in the Panchkarma.

To drip the oil one needs a specialized vessel that can hold the Herbal Oil and allow to drip the oil at a consistent rate. It should also allow the user to change the rate of the drip.

We have been manufacturing Shirodhara pots for last 10 years. The Shirodhara pots we make, including their handles, and rivets, are made from pure copper and are fitted with a brass control valve that allows the user to control the drip of the oil at the desired speed.

The Shirodhara pots generally have control valve attached to the copper pot using the soldering technique where the brass control valve was attached using a solder that is essentially the mixture of Lead and Tin. The problem with these soldered pots is the fear of contamination of the Herbal Oil with lead, as the solder contains lead and second the soldering is a temporary joint and the control valve would eventually start to move and leak from the sides or the control valve just fall out.

We improved on the Shirodhara pots making process and introduced the brass welding techinque. In all Shirodhara pots we make, the brass control valves are welded to the copper pots using the brass welding, also called brazing technique. This ensures that the oil never comes in contact with any contaminant and brazing is a permanent joint that never gives up.
